Emory University Instructional Technology/Design Support-Lead in Atlanta, Georgia

Description

The Academic Technologies Instructional Technology/Design support team Lead will work collaboratively with faculty and the instructional design team to design, develop, and deliver blended or fully online courses, as well as technology enhanced instructional materials. This is a new leadership position which includes 4 direct reports who provide support and collaborate with faculty to accomplish teaching and learning objectives with appropriate technology. Primary focus will be on teaching and learning in Emory’s Learning Management Systems (Canvas) and associated external applications that extend the core functionality of the LMS. The Lead Instructional Technology/Design will be a part of the Teaching & Learning Technologies team, reporting to the Assistant Director of Academic Technologies.

Key Duties

  • Establish a working vision for the large-scale support and development of technology enhanced courses and materials using instructional design best practices.

  • Provide leadership and coordination to the instructional design/technology team to support the creation of pedagogically sound, engaging and effective courses within Canvas (campus LMS).

  • Offer workshops and provide course design expertise directly to organizations, departments and faculty.

  • Lead daily operations and communicate with internal and external team members regarding required and completed tasks, outline project plans, and provide status reports.

  • Manage critical relationships and collaborations with other instructional support entities with the libraries, across campus, and across the broader instructional design/technology community.

  • Develop formative and summative evaluation plans in conjunction with assessment reports.

  • Hire, train and supervise staff.

  • Identify individual and team skill gaps and developmental opportunities to facilitate career development.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum education master’s level degree in learning sciences, instructional design/technology, project management, or related field.

  • Demonstrated sound understanding of instructional design in a higher education context; thorough knowledge of pedagogical theory and practice and emerging instructional technologies.

  • Excellent project management and written and oral communication skills

  • Knowledge and skill in using online/blended teaching tools such as learning management systems, audio and video capture software, social media and networking

  • Demonstrated experience managing complex instructional design projects in a higher education environment; ability to deal with multiple constituencies in a dynamic work environment

  • Experience managing and motivating a team, where significant initiative and direction are required.
