JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provides technical and supervisory oversight to projects, programs, or studies. Uses specialized knowledge of, and experience with, public health principles to analyze, develop, implement, and promote solutions to public health issues/problems. Works effectively with study, program or project teams and/or study sites, and successfully manages related activities to achieve goals within required timeframes and budgets. Assists in the design, implementation, and maintenance of program or study related systems and procedures. Supervises and provides guidance, clarification and feedback to staff. Develops process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality. Provide consultative resources to principal investigators or to project, program or study managers and coordinators. Prepares proposals, protocols, data analysis plans, reports, manuscripts, and presentation of study findings. Addresses public health issues by providing education, technical assistance, advocacy, public awareness, and research. Works with programs or studies designed to evaluate the prevalence or surveillance of public health issues and the effectiveness of targeted interventions. May coordinate clinical study sites to ensure compliance with patient recruitment and data collection standards. May provide technical assistance to organizations to include presentations, websites, strategies, and educational forums to address specific public health issues. May design, develop, and conduct targeted training initiatives. May collaborate with external organizations to develop action plans and goals to achieve specific objectives. Identifies new potential projects, studies or partners. May co-author papers for publication and presentation at professional meetings or conferences. Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A master's degree in public health, a master's of science degree in public health or health education, or a master's in development practice from an accredited school and five years of relevant applied public health experience. Extensive data management and analysis experience. Grant development, management, and administration experience.

SUMMARY:

ExperiencedNational DPP DTTAC-trained Master Trainer or DTTAC-trained lifestyle coach with demonstrated excellence in training and partnering in communities and systems that serve priority populations and communities at high risk for diabetes. As lead of priority populations and partnerships, provides technical and supervisory oversight to select projects, programs, or studies as part of the Diabetes Training and Technical Assistance Center.Recognizes the ways that diversity of individual and populations (e.g., culture, language, health status, literacy) influences policies, programs, services and the health of a community. Develops partnerships, programs and business models that successfully engage and scale the National DPP.

Designs, develops, and conducts targeted training initiatives (lifestyle coach training and master training). The position will also include development and training of a Spanish speaking virtual training and materials, requiring fluency in Spanish both spoken and written. Independently uses a specialized knowledge of, and experience, with public health principles to analyze, develop, implement, and promote other solutions to public health issues and challenges in diabetes prevention and control by providing additional education, training and technical assistance, advocacy, public awareness, and research.

Identifies and cultivates new projects and collaborative partners, especially within communities at highest risk for diabetes. Collaborates with external organizations to develop action plans and implementation strategies to achieve specific objectives. Provides technical assistance to organizations to include planning and implementation assistance, presentations, websites, strategies, and educational forums to address specific public health issues related to diabetes prevention and control. Participates in programs or studies designed to evaluate the effectiveness of targeted interventions for diabetes prevention. This position collaborates closely with CDC Division of Diabetes Translation and with state and community partners in effective and efficient delivery of the National Diabetes Prevention program and related trainings and training models, as well as providing direct strategic action planning and implementation activities for sustainable diabetes prevention programs.

Works effectively with study, program or project teams and/or study sites, and successfully manages related activities to achieve goals within required timeframes and budgets. Assists in the design, implementation, and maintenance of program related systems and procedures. Develops process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality of select DTTAC services.Performs related responsibilities as required.

Five years of relevant applied public health training experience is required. Must be an active DTTAC trained Lifestyle Coach of CDCs National DPP; DTTAC Master Trainer Select preferred with a documented trainer satisfaction at 80% or above as evidenced through training evaluations. Must be fluent in Spanish, both written and verbal. Must have experience working in communities and priority populations for diabetes prevention.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Lead development of priority partnerships, programs and training business models that successfully engage populations at greatest risk and/or scale the National DPP.

  • Deliver training (in-person and virtual) of nationwide of lifestyle coaches and master trainers (up to 2 trainings a month), and other advanced learning activities (webinars and workshops).

  • Provide implementation assistance with clients and states in strategic action planning and workforce planning for the National DPP.

  • Curriculum development and training of a Spanish virtual training and related materials

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES:

Work with undergraduate and graduate students to complete tasks. May include supervision of Public Health Program Associates and collaborative project teams.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EXPERIENCE:

Must be an active DTTAC trained Lifestyle Coach of CDCs National DPP; DTTAC Master Trainer Select preferred with a documented trainer satisfaction at 80% or above as evidenced through training evaluations. Must have experience working in communities and priority populations for diabetes prevention. Experience partnering or working with state departments of health, health systems and referral sources preferred. Curriculum and program development experience preferred.Strong strategic thinking and project management skills required. Experience working with virtual teams via online group meeting software, and comfort with learning systems and technologies preferred. Experience with program evaluation and survey design preferred. Grant writing experience preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Communicates Spanish in writing and orally with linguistic and cultural proficiency (i.e., using age-appropriate materials, incorporating images, considering health literacy level).Ability to research, review and understand government, journal, and other research or news articles and documents and translate that information while considering the audience’s learning levels and skills. Communicate effectively with clients, consultants, Emory University faculty and staff. Professional writing and oral communication skills are necessary to conduct Emory Centers’ – DTTAC business.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Familiarity and high-level of understanding using Adobe Connect, Zoom, Skype or similar, Microsoft programs, especially PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience with survey design tools (Survey Monkey, Qualtrics) a plus. Able and willing to travel.
