Emory Healthcare/Emory University Lead Research Specialist | Division of Development and Cognitive Neuroscience at Yerkes in Atlanta, Georgia
Drs. Mar Sanchez and Jocelyne Bachevalier, at the Division of Development and Cognitive Neuroscience, Yerkes National Primate Research Center, are seeking a Lead Research Specialist to do processing and analysis of longitudinal brain MRI data in the developing macaque brain. This includes processing and analysis of structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and resting state functional MRI datasets using in-house pipelines.
Under minimal supervision, performs a variety of specialized and complex research and laboratory tests and procedures.
Uses independent judgment in applying or adapting scientific techniques.
May assist in protocol design. Investigates and proposes alternative experimental procedures for consideration by a principal investigator.
Assists in planning and scheduling research procedures.
Analyzes and interprets results of studies.
Demonstrates and trains others in the proper use/operation of laboratory techniques and equipment.
Calibrates, troubleshoots and performs routine repair and maintenance of equipment. Reviews literature for related research developments and techniques and compiles findings.
Monitors laboratory processes to maintain quality assurance standards. Records results of studies, compiles and analyzes data and prepares charts and graphs.
Monitors the handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances. Performs related responsibilities as required.

Bachelor's degree in a scientific field
Two years of research experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline including Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Neuroscience, MRI Physics or related fields.
Background in pipelines, data processing and analysis, as well as programming/scripting and computational skills.
Experience with brain MRI data processing/analysis (e.g. image registration, skull-stripping, atlas building), resting state functional connectivity MRI and/or DTI is preferred.
Additional neuroscience knowledge is valuable.
Strong computer programming/scripting skills are required.
Preferred languages are MATLAB, Unix/Linux scripting, Python and Docker.
Experience using MRI software packages such as FSL, ANTS, AFNI, FreeSurfer, CIVET and related programs are preferred.
