The Yerkes Biomarkers Core Laboratory has an immediate opening for a highly-motivated and qualified Lead Research Specialist, who under minimal supervision, can coordinate and perform immunoassay analyses using a variety of biomatrices.

The ideal candidate will have a good working knowledge of chemiluminescence, ELISA, and automated EIA technology and assay development.

  • Participation in the implementation of a digital marketing and scientific outreach campaign will be highly encouraged; thus, the most successful candidate will have excellent verbal and writing skills and prior customer service experience.

  • Prior experience working in a clinical or scientific research laboratory and running immunoassays is required.

  • Prior experience with immunoassays using saliva, feces, and urine is desired, but not required.

Job duties may include the following day-to-day functions, as well.

  • Use independent judgment in applying or adapting scientific techniques.

  • May assist in protocol design.

  • Investigate and propose alternative experimental procedures for consideration by a principal investigator.

  • Assist in planning and scheduling research procedures.

  • Analyze and interpret results of studies.

  • Demonstrate and train others in the proper use/operation of laboratory techniques and equipment.

  • Calibrate, troubleshoot and performs routine repair and maintenance of equipment.

  • Review literature for related research developments and techniques and compile findings.

  • Monitor laboratory processes to maintain quality assurance standards.

  • Record results of studies, compile and analyzes data and prepare charts and graphs.

  • Monitor the handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances.

  • Perform related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field

  • Two years of research experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Additional Details

For over 40 years, the Biomarkers Core Laboratory (BCL) at the Yerkes National Primate Research Center has provided essential endocrine assay services and specialized expertise to the local and national scientific community in support of basic and translational research. The Yerkes BCL processes an array of biological samples from multiple species, with a special focus on nonhuman primate (NHP) and human samples. Core assay services include a wide-range of routine immunoassays and liquid chromatography-tandem triple quadrupole mass spectrometry assays for the quantification of stress, reproductive, and metabolic hormones, monoamine neurotransmitters and neuropeptides, cytokines, and vitamins. The Yerkes BCL also develops, optimizes, and validates new assays using the above platforms upon investigator request.
