JOB DESCRIPTION: Provides direct and indirect nursing care to patients and families in routine nursing situations under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or licensed provider. Assists physicians and registered nurses in the provision of patient comfort, care, and treatment. Performs a variety of semi-skilled nursing responsibilities. Administers IVs and medications. Assists with diagnostic procedures. Observes and record patients' conditions and progress. Performs other related duties as required. Operates specialized medical equipment common to assigned work area. Assists in maintaining equipment and related supplies. Performs basic assessment of patient and monitors response to interventions. Reports observations to appropriate personnel. Obtains vital signs and measurements. Safely performs designated nursing procedures and other measures per competency management process while following appropriate policies. Administers and records routine medications following appropriate standards of care. Assists in monitoring controlled substances. Provides emotional and physical comfort and safety for patients. Performs venipuncture to administer fluids, medicine, blood and/or withdraw blood. May assist with various diagnostic procedures. Provides input into the patient care plan including discharge planning; coordinates care with professional and support staff. Establishes and maintains communications with the health care team, patient, and family. Teaches patient and family and reinforces as necessary. Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development. Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Accesses and enters information on administration of medicines, technical and physical observations of patients in accordance with hospital guidelines. Maintains confidentiality of information. Maintains clean, safe and therapeutic environment for patient in compliance with Universal Precautions guidelines and safety standards. May assist with research projects. As necessary, assists with admission, transfer and discharge of patients. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing Program. A minimum of two years patient care experience preferred (within the last 5 years). Computer skills preferred. Licensed as a Practical Nurse in the state of Georgia. Current AHA BLS (CPR) certification required and ACLS to work in designated departments. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock , Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation , Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
