JOB DESCRIPTION: Plans, organizes, and directs the day to day operations of the Anesthesia Services Department. Participates in developing departmental goals and objectives. Meets with other staff members to discuss progress and to develop future courses of action. Documents and monitors staff activities for compliance with quality control standards. Develops and implements protocols to ensure the delivery of high quality patient care. Supervises staff and employee performance. Resolves Human Resource-related issues, determines staffing needs, interviews and hires staff. Provides on-going performance feedback, addresses problems, orients and trains employees, verifies competency and identifies and suggests ways to develop skills. Determines disciplinary, termination and salary actions. Develops work schedules and monitors and directs workflow. Maintains an adequate stock of anesthesia supplies and equipment in compliance with organizational purchasing policies. Interfaces with other internal departments to manage receipt, delivery, shipment, repair, credits, and/or documentation of same. Meets with vendors to learn about products and services; obtains product information used in making purchase recommendations. Tests and evaluates new equipment prior to purchase and/or purchase recommendation. Troubleshoots all defective equipment and coordinates repairs with appropriate personnel. Maintains equipment in clean and sterile condition and ensures return to department in a timely manner. Maintains departmental purchasing records, inventory control logs, time sheets, work schedules and other documents related to department operations. Analyzes and researches departmental budget(s) to locate errors and/or omissions, balance account records, and reconcile discrepancies. Prepares and submits for approval budget proposal based on prior expenses. Evaluates and coordinates staff training needs and programs. Coordinates appropriate in-services, orientation, and on-going training programs. Serves as a resource to less experienced staff, and serves as a liaison to other departments. Provides back-up support to technical staff members during peak periods. Prepares patient specimens for coagulation and reports results to the clinician. Performs other related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree in a biomedical science, engineering technology, or related field OR seven years related healthcare experience. Must have functioned in a supervisory capacity for a minimum of three years. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock , Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
