As part of the Office of Planning and Administration, the Data Governance Manager administers a university-wide data governance program in consultation with university governance bodies.
The data governance program includes but is not limited to Emory University administrative data, such as financial, human resources, student, IT, faculty, research, and advancement.
The Data Governance Manager works to bring people across the university together around the shared purpose of leveraging our data to achieve Emory's mission.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Vice Provost for Academic Planning, works closely with senior administration and staff to set data priorities.
Forges shared agreements across schools and units on the definition, documentation, and appropriate use of Emory University data assets and works to ensure that Emory University stakeholders know where to find data, what the data represent, and understand how the data should be used.
Works with units across campus to tailor the data governance program to local needs while supporting university-wide organizational structures, policies, and processes.
Manages institutional data initiatives and processes, particularly those in support of institutional data quality, with analytics and IT professionals across a variety of university offices and divisions including data warehouse, business intelligence, and analytics teams.
Maintains the data stewardship structure at the university, including defining roles and providing support to data stewards.
Priorities for the data governance program are established in high-level university governance bodies, from which the Data Governance Manager takes direction.
Oversees the university's data governance program to ensure the integrity and usefulness of university data assets by supporting their consistent definition, documentation, and appropriate use.
Manages and directs the development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of data governance initiatives.
Maintains the data stewardship structure at the university, including defining roles and providing support to data stewards.
Provides data governance training and support to Data Trustees, Data Stewards, Data Custodians, and Users.
Monitors trends and developments in the field of data governance and recommends strategic directions and priorities to Emory leadership.
Acts as the subject matter expert for the university regarding the interpretation, implementation and compliance with data governance policies and regulations.
Formulates and proposes policies to the university governance bodies.
Produces documentation, instructions, usage agreements and other guidance documents.
Represents the data governance program to university stakeholders, including schools and administrative units.
Represents Emory University in consortia with peer universities and through data governance professional organizations.
Manages working groups appointed by the Data Advisory Committee or other administrative entities to achieve articulated priorities.
Supervises data governance staff.
Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor's degree in information systems, analytics, or related field and four years of systems support, data governance or related experience OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of data governance concepts, techniques, processes, and applications.
Knowledge of and experience with data architecture, business intelligence, and analytics.
Knowledge of higher education institutions and experience with enterprise data in a university context.
Excellent diplomacy, facilitation, and communication skills to work effectively across our highly decentralized institution.
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to cultivate professional and business partnerships.
The ability to work independently and as part of a team, to be flexible and adapt to different stakeholder needs and organizational cultures.
NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department of work. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
