The Manager of HVAC and Refrigeration will manage the performance and activities of the shift supervisors and associated staff that maintain, operate, and control the heating, ventilating, air conditioning, environmental rooms, ice machines, and refrigeration equipment throughout buildings on the Emory University's Campus.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Acts as a safety leader and puts safety first in all responsibilities. Oversees the inspection, planning, programming, and implementation for Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC& R) operations and maintenance, including preventive maintenance, chemical water treatment and testing, operational testing and chillers at designated facilities.

  • Responsible for the technical oversight of the group to ensure all trouble calls are addressed appropriately and root causes are identified and resolved.

  • Prioritizes, schedules, and delegates work assignments to ensure the achievement of production performance and customer delivery requirements.

  • Implements in-house and external training programs to ensure a highly-skilled workforce is maintained.

  • Coordinates with Engineering Services as needed to ensure efficient operation of all HVAC related systems.

  • Plans and schedules crews and facilities using internal and external resources to provide expedient solutions to operational issues.

  • Identifies appropriate training to develop employees' skills.

  • Maintains refrigeration compliance program for shop use.

  • Responsible for the preparation of the shop's business plan.

  • Monitors the shop's budget performance to ensure that it remains within fiscal constraints.

  • Maintains appropriate records on equipment and personnel.

  • Hires, trains and supervises staff.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent and completion of a HVAC & R program at a technical or trade school, or an Associate's degree in a related technical field.

  • Seven years of related HVAC & R experience, which includes repair/installation experience and knowledge of all types of HVAC systems (DX units, split systems, chilled water, heating hot water, air delivery systems as well as refrigeration.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field preferred.

  • Prior supervisory related experience.

  • EPA Universal certification.

  • Computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Windows software.

  • May require a valid Georgia driver's license, as well as insurable to drive an Emory vehicle.

  • State of Georgia Conditioned Air Contractors license preferred.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and to bend, stoop and twist.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
