The Winship Cancer Institute’s Cancer Tissue and Pathology Shared Resource (CTPSR) seeks a Research Laboratory Manager to oversee the activities of its human specimen biorepository. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience with: processing of blood, bone marrow, solid tissue, and other human-derived biospecimens under aseptic conditions; isolation, cryopreservation, and QC of PBMC and other derivatives; biorepository inventory and data management using a specimen tracking LIMS such as OpenSpecimen; and freezer maintenance, organization, and temperature monitoring. Candidates must have experience working in a CAP or similarly accredited laboratory, understand the regulations and requirements imposed by accreditation, and be capable of helping CTPSR prepare for and navigate the rigorous inspection process. This will include developing and writing policies and SOPs, helping to establish QA/QC procedures, maintaining a document management system, and fulfilling other CAP accreditation requirements. The chosen candidate will closely monitor biorepository staff to ensure collected specimens are of the highest quality. They will be expected to take ownership of tasks and projects, maintain a high level of productivity, and follow the direction of lab leadership. This position will be based at the Clifton campus but will require travel to multiple sites within the Emory system.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Supervises staff (generally ten or more employees) in a large and/or complex research laboratory.

  • Responsible for administrative, financial, staffing and planning aspects of research.

  • Designs instrumentation, theoretical models, equipment and other vehicles for data gathering and analysis.

  • Designs and applies scientific and numerical models in research.

  • Oversees development and integrity of data collection and instruments.

  • Conducts on-going, periodic and final analyses of data, using specialized techniques and programming.

  • Writes and collaborates with other researchers on manuscripts, abstracts and other publications of research findings.

  • Collaborates with other researchers on long-range plan for overall research.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in a scientific field; related master's degree preferred.

  • Five years of professional research experience.

  • Three years of supervisory experience.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
