Reporting to and partnering with the division's Enterprise Communications Directors, this position will work to map stories among Emory's many that meet key, University-wide media pillars, and, once told, enhance its reputation, especially among alumni and donor communities.
This position is a media relations generalist within the Enterprise Communications function within the Communications and Marketing division.
Employs media relations skills and experience that demonstrate an understanding of how to craft reputation-enhancing stories in partnership with journalists and influencers.
Will be assigned to several 'beats' within the University.
As a result, a proven history developing connections and outreach plans for a variety of reputation-enhancing stories, will be helpful.
Activates a cross-platform strategy, leveraging owned, earned, and social media channels.
Performs other duties as required.
A bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of experience in media relations, public relations, community affairs, or journalistic/writing experience.
Prior experience in higher-education is preferred.
A proven track record in building and managing audiences across emerging media.
Experience in developing connections and media plans that deliver on strategies outlined by the wider earned (media relations) team.
Understanding of and experience in driving engagement via owned media (social media).
Experience in leveraging analytical approaches to monitor the success of placements against engagement goals.
- Experience with media relations, AP style writing, press releases, and pitching media is strongly desired.
NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home temporarily during the COVID-19 pandemic, with intent to return to an Emory University location in the future. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
