A full-timeNeuroimaging Analystposition is open at Emory University (Division of Developmental and Cognitive Neuroscience, Emory National Primate Research Center - ENPRC) to do brain MRI research in nonhuman primates. The position involves processing and analysis of brain imaging data, including structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), resting state functional MRI (rsfMRI) and Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) datasets using in-house pipelines as well as open-source software.

The position involves brain MRI data processing and analyses for longitudinal studies of development and aging of neural circuits involved in social and emotional/stress regulation and cognitive function in nonhuman primates. Brain MRI datasets include structural MRI, DTI, rsfMRI and MRS neuroimaging modalities.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Under minimal supervision, performs a variety of specialized and complex research and laboratory tests and procedures.

• Uses independent judgment in applying or adapting scientific techniques.

• May assist in protocol design.

• Investigates and proposes alternative experimental procedures for consideration by a principal investigator.

• Assists in planning and scheduling research procedures.

• Analyzes and interprets results of studies.

• Demonstrates and trains others in the proper use/operation of laboratory techniques and equipment.

• Calibrates, troubleshoots and performs routine repair and maintenance of equipment.

• Reviews literature for related research developments and techniques and compiles findings.

• Monitors laboratory processes to maintain quality assurance standards.

• Records results of studies, compiles and analyzes data and prepares charts and graphs.

• Monitors the handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances.

• Performs related responsibilities as required.

• Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in a scientific field and two years of research experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

PREFERRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline including Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Neuroscience, MRI Physics or related fields.

• Background in neuroimaging pipelines, data processing and analysis, as well as programming/scripting and computational skills.

• Experience with brain MRI data processing/analysis (e.g. image registration, skull-stripping, atlas building), resting state functional connectivity MRI, DTI and/or MRS is preferred.

• Additional neuroscience knowledge is valuable.

• Strong computer programming/scripting skills are required.

• Preferred languages are Unix/Linux scripting, shell, Python, Docker, MATLAB.

• Experience using MRI software packages such as FSL, ANTS, AFNI, FreeSurfer, CIVET (and related programs), as well as with Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS) formatting are preferred.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

• Work environment may involve working sporadically with biohazardous nonhuman primate blood and tissues.

• Work environment may involve some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions, such as sporadic access to MRI scanners.

• Work is normally performed in a typical computer science and office desk environment with access to servers for data processing.

• Sporadic work in a laboratory environment.
