Online ABSN Assistant Program Director

Full-time Telecommute Position

The Assistant Program Director, 54-week Distance ABSN (D-ABSN) program, works in partnership with the Program Director for the D-ABSN track within the undergraduate program. The Assistant Program Director will have primary responsibility for the planning, implementing, evaluating, and managing of the clinical component of the D-ABSN track, including compliance with regulatory requirements. Additionally, the Assistant Program Director will be responsible for the mentoring of clinical instructors & preceptors, shared teaching and student advising responsibilities, and developing relationships and collaborating with regulatory boards and clinical agencies to develop placement sites and evaluate clinical sites in collaboration with faculty. The Assistant Program Director will work closely with the Program Director regarding the day-to-day management and implementation of the program, as well as curricular, programmatic, and student issues, and with program faculty on other aspects of their faculty role. A terminal degree (DNP or PhD) is required for this position.

The Assistant Program Director is expected to:

  • Advance the quality of the D-ABSN program in collaboration with the Program Director through continuous improvement, strategic planning, and program management;

  • Design and provide expert instruction for BSN preparation through online didactic, onsite simulation and skills, clinical and innovative approaches;

  • Support the educational mission of the program including an inquiry guided learning pedagogy administered online to three (3) distinct cohorts annually, using a unique concentrated block course schedule. Responsibilities will include teaching an array of didactic courses within the program, training and shared supervision of remote clinical faculty, and shared responsibilities for developing and administering simulation and procedure labs;

  • Actively engage in all onsite sessions in collaboration with the Program Director;

  • Lead the D-ABSN clinical education planning, implementation, evaluation, and management in collaboration with the Program administrator, faculty, and clinical placement coordinators, including identifying clinical preceptors and sites around the United States and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements;

  • Mentor D-ABSN faculty and address faculty professional development needs in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education and Associate Dean for Academic Advancement (ADAA), with special attention to staying abreast of online teaching pedagogy;

  • Assist the Program Director with hiring clinical instructors;

  • Orient and supervise clinical instructors and assist in problem-solving issues;

  • Respond to potential student inquiries and participate in the admission process by interviewing and selecting applicants.

  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all constituents. Excellent verbal and written communications skills required;

  • Preferred candidates will have experience with online teaching, academic program and organizational management, and recent clinical experience;

  • Candidates who embrace inter-professional and strengths-based approaches to nursing will be particularly appreciated;

  • Additional assets will be the candidate who demonstrates experience in using active learning strategies, e.g., inquiry guided learning strategies, team-based learning;

  • The ability to work well in teams and in guiding teams of instructors and students;

  • The ability to quickly assess and address any weaknesses in a student’s performance;

  • Collaborates well with colleagues and students of diverse backgrounds on pedagogical approaches, teaching strategy, and curricular alignment;

  • Encourages students to work well in teams, to communicate effectively among themselves, to consider multiple perspectives and to justify their decisions and actions;

  • Seeks opportunities to learn and apply new teaching methods and uses of technology to enhance the distance learning experience to fully engage students in coursework and with one another.
