O perations Chief, Pain Division
Job Purpose: To lead the clinical operations of the Emory Pain Division, which includes the Emory Pain Center and its satellite locations and the Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine (RAAPM) Service.
The Operations Chief will:
Aid and advise the Chair and Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs in all aspects of developing and maintaining the clinical operations of the Division
Serve as a liaison between the physicians and:
Pain Center leadership and staff
RN Advisors Team (Clinical Messaging Support)
Manage all aspects of the Division’s schedule
Create the Pain Faculty schedule including call assignments
Supervise the daily and call scheduling of the Pain Fellows, the Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine (RAAPM) fellows and the residents who rotate on the chronic pain and RAAPM rotations
Ensure daily staffing matches the clinical needs of the service
Work with the Service Chief of RAAPM to ensure adequate staffing for the successful daily operations of the service
Annual reconciliation of assigned clinical, non-clinical and paid leave to allowed limits
Participate in yearly budget discussions regarding the clinical needs of the service
Work with the clinic manager on the daily operations of the Pain Center and its satellite locations
Hold regular meetings with the clinic manager/administrator to discuss the clinic operations and throughput and initiate process improvement measures as required
Ensure compliance with Emory Healthcare policies and standards
Create, establish and maintain clinical workflows for all services offered by the Pain Center
Collaborate with the clinic manager on patient access needs and education
Coordinate physician staffing schedules to ensure timely update of GE
Partner with Division Chief, clinic leadership and physicians to meet patient access metric targets established by PGP leadership including realized utilization, new patient access, and bump rate
Educate physicians on patient access updates or changes
Support the Division’s billing and documentation needs
Edit and maintain the Pain Division Quick Orders and Charges page to meet billing requirements
Edit and maintain the Pain Division note templates to ensure documentation includes all required fields
Partner with Division Chief to support billing compliance through education on proper documentation in consultation with the Department’s Administrative Team
Represent the Division at meetings related to Clinical Operations, including
Committees dealing with updates/changes to physical plant/facilities
Committees dealing with readiness for inspections by accreditation bodies (e.g. CMS, TJC)
Meet regularly with the Pain Division Chief and the Service Chief of RAAPM
Contribute to the formulation of policy and strategy of the Department as requested by the Chair or Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs
Provide reports to the Office of the Chair and Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs when requested
Time allocation: The Operations Chief will receive a total of 20% non-clinical time to fulfill the requirements of the post at the discretion of the Chair.
Report: The Operations Chief reports to the Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs and will meet with the Chair, Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs, or their designee upon the request of either party.
