The Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Emory University Department of Pediatrics invites interested applicants for the position of Aflac Pediatric BMT Researcher. The Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center provides a rich and collaborative environment for basic, clinical, and translational research and boasts a diverse faculty. The Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program is one of the largest pediatric BMT programs in the country, performing more than 70 lifesaving BMTs in 2021, one of the largest volumes in the country. The BMT program is an integral component of the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center, and currently includes 11 faculty members, with a broad range of clinical and translational research and two members who are primarily basic research-focused. The candidate should bring a research focus that compliments and builds on our existing foundation.
This position offers a wealth of opportunities for research collaborations within the Department of Pediatrics, Winship Cancer Institute, Grady Hospital as well as with Emory basic science departments, the Rollins School of Public Health, the Georgia Institute of Technology, Morehouse School of Medicine and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Successful candidates will have:
· MD, MD/PhD or PhD
· If MD, must be Board Certified in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology
· If MD, must be currently licensed as a physician and eligible for licensure as a physician in the State of Georgia
· A strong history of mentorship of trainees and junior faculty to support growth in research and scholarship
· A history of academic excellence/achievement
· A strong record of scholarship and proven success in obtaining extra-mural funding to conduct independent research within a defined area of investigation that relates to BMT and/or cellular therapies.
· Willingness to work in a collaborative fashion to expand and strengthen current collaborations with investigators from other divisions and departments at Emory, Georgia Tech, Georgia State and the Morehouse School of Medicine.
Salary and rank at Emory University School of Medicine will be commensurate with experience and accomplishments. This position will have the opportunity to engage in clinical service and will have dedicated time for administrative duties.
