The Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Emory University Department of Pediatrics invites interested applicants for the position of Aflac Solid Tumor Program Leader . The Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center provides a rich and collaborative environment for basic, clinical and translational research and boasts a diverse faculty. The Solid Tumor Program is an integral component of the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, and currently includes seven faculty members, two of whom are primarily basic research-focused. The Solid Tumor Program Leader is expected to have a national reputation in an area of pediatric solid tumors (e.g. sarcoma, neuroblastoma), to direct his/her own research program, to be able to care for and consult on pediatric solid tumor patients, and to mentor and foster the careers of the junior faculty members. The Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center has close affiliations with research faculty investigators within the Winship Cancer Institute, Emory University, and the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a willingness to collaborate across departmental or center boundaries is essential. The Leader will participate in developing a strategic plan for the Solid Tumor Program, with anticipated expansion and future development of the Program.
Candidates should hold current appointments at the Associate Professor or Professor level. Successful candidates will have:
MD or MD/PhD degrees
Board Certification in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology
Currently licensed as a physician and eligible for licensure as a physician in the State of Georgia
A strong record of scholarship and appropriate funding as an independent investigator and will be expected to work in a collaborative fashion conducting nationally recognized research in pediatric oncology
A history of academic excellence/achievement
A strong history of mentorship of faculty to support growth in research and scholarship
A history of service or leadership in a hematology-oncology program
Salary and rank of Associate Professor or Professor at Emory will be commensurate with experience and accomplishment. The focus of this position will be innovative research. The is position will be expected to engage in clinical serve and mentorship of junior faculty and will have dedicated time for administrative duties.
