Emory University Peer Support Specialist in atlanta, Georgia



  • Under general supervision, the Peer Support Specialist promotes patient awareness of resources available to individuals/families impacted by HIV/AIDS.

  • Supports and guides new patients through The Emory Clinic's processes.

  • Enhances patient and family awareness of available psychosocial support services that include peer to peer support and group support.

  • May participate in and/or organize HIV/AIDS outreach activities in the community.

  • Supports patients in articulating and developing personal goals and objectives for recovery and wellness.

  • Guides them through the process of identifying possible barriers they may encounter.

  • May be required to facilitate educational sessions and conduct community presentations.

  • Coordinates and distributes educational materials. Identifies, contacts, corresponds with and interviews program participants, either in person, in a clinical setting or by telephone for the purpose of ensuring that questionnaires are complete, legible and accurate.

  • Works with program participants to obtain missing or questionable data.

  • Maintains complete and accurate records and files.

  • Collects and enters information into database and may assist in data compilation.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.


  • A bachelor's degree in education, psychology, social work, sociology, clinical (i.e. nursing) or other closely related field AND two years of experience working with individuals/families impacted by HIV/AIDS OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must be certified as a Peer Support Specialist within six months of hire and employer may cover all or part of the cost of certification.
