Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist Leader, the Supervisor, Pharmacy Technician will coordinate daily pharmacy technician and intern workflow in their respective shift or specialty area.

  • Assists with operational support, departmental project, inventory management, and strategic plan initiatives as needed.

  • Maintains appropriate medication par levels wholesale vendor.

  • Must oversee, train, and assist technicians through the procurement, preparation, packaging, distribution and disposal of medications and pharmaceutical supplies.

  • Primarily responsible for the training, monitoring, and troubleshooting of automatic systems and equipment, devices, and IV workflow solutions.

  • Supports and monitors routine environmental monitoring, cleaning, disinfection, and decontamination activities and documentation.

  • Conducts and ensures routine quality assurance inspections, including the examination of product integrity and expiration.

  • Follows and implements Emory Healthcare PLEDGE and care transformational model in all activities and interactions.

  • Demonstrates teamwork, recognizes peers, and contributes to continuous quality improvement initiatives.

  • Embraces change in a dynamic work environment.

  • Appropriately reports safety concerns and/or forwards opportunities to appropriate pharmacy personnel.

  • Manages and oversees all site-specific orientation and training of new pharmacy technicians through the procurement, preparation, packaging, distribution, and disposal of medications and pharmaceutical supplies.

  • Provides organizational and technical support to less experienced technicians and assists in the training of new personnel.

  • Monitors proper preparation of pharmaceuticals and compliance with departmental protocol and guidelines for pharmacy operations.

  • May complete and sign off on Orientation Documentation Check Lists as well as may certify IV aseptic and/or cytotoxic technique of other personnel.

  • Assigns the work schedule for technicians and amends schedules and assignments as necessary; monitors and directs workflow.

  • May assign work to other support staff.

  • Ensures compliance with departmental policies and procedures in accordance with state, federal, and organizational guidelines.

  • Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.

  • Completes all required training and competency assessments in a timely fashion.

  • Attends and delivers educational in-services as appropriate.

  • The Supervisor, Pharmacy Technician will partner with department leadership in the implementation of department-wide pharmacy programs and project education.

  • The Supervisor, Pharmacy Technician oversees technician accountability for quality assurance processes to maintain pharmacy operations for their shift, in accordance with departmental and regulatory standards.

  • The Supervisor, Pharmacy Technician will assume human resource responsibilities, including but not limited to managing employee scheduling, coaching, feedback and performance appraisals in compliance with departmental standards.

  • Will also be responsible for ensuring employee annual competencies are completed in alignment with EHC guidelines.

  • Responds timely to customers' needs triaging requests appropriately within the workflow.

  • Understands and implements appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks ensuring timely and safe patient care.

  • Appropriately reports and reviews safety concerns and/or opportunities to enhance pharmacy services.

  • Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.

  • Collaborates well with intradepartmental and interdepartmental leadership to achieve strategic initiatives and improve patient safety and care.

  • The Supervisor, Pharmacy Technician must proactively manage employee scheduling, performance, and compliance with departmental standards.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred.

  • Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program preferred.

  • At least five years experience or three years of related pharmacy experience as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).

  • Some supervisory experience preferred.

  • Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration.

  • Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.

  • Must be able to demonstrate within the first year full competency in at least 3 primary scheduled areas with a general understanding of all competencies and processes related to that site of work.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs.; up to 50% of the work day; 0-20 lbs. up to 50% of the workday; Lifting 50 lbs. max; Carrying of objects up to 35 lbs.; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock , Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
