JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
We have an opening for a qualified postdoctoral position in the Musculoskeletal Research Imaging Laboratory in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences, at Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia. Research is focused on developing, implementing and translating quantitative MRI and MRS methods to assess tissue structure and function in the musculoskeletal system. The laboratory is interested in emerging techniques using diffusion, relaxometry, and multi-parametric image analysis.
The Musculoskeletal Research Imaging Lab is embedded in the Musculoskeletal Radiology Division within the Radiology and Imaging Sciences Department and integrated with both clinical and research operations within the Orthopedics Department in the School of Medicine. It has direct access to two departmental research-dedicated Siemens 3 Tesla MRI scanners and a 9.4 Tesla Bruker MRI scanner. Additional MRI instruments available for clinical research include a Siemens 1.5 Tesla MRI located in the Orthopedics and Spine Clinic, and a Siemens 3 Tesla MRI located in the Sports Medicine Clinic.
Applicants must possess a M.D. and/or a Ph.D. or D.Sc. in physics, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering or a related field, and have completed fewer than five years of post-doctoral training. The successful candidates should exhibit strong quantitative skills, be highly motivated and will be expected to exhibit a strong work ethic. Both excellent written and oral communication skills are required in addition to the ability to work independently and in a collaborative manner with a diverse group of scientists and clinicians. Knowledge of MR physics and previous experience with pulse sequence programming the Siemens IDEA and/or Burker ParaVision environment is desired.
