Postdoctoral Fellow Position in Emory School of Medicine-Department of Pediatrics, Division of Cardiology/Sibley Heart Center

The Pediatric Heart Disease Data Registry Core and research team at Emory University School of Medicine led by Dr. Lazaros Kochilas are seeking a full-time postdoctoral fellow for a 2-year appointment with the potential for exntension starting fall of 2020. The Pediatric Heart Diseases Data Registry Core provides access to rich registry data from surgical, catheter-based and electrophysiologic studies and interventions for multiple pediatric heart diseases (http://www.pedsresearch.org/research/cores/phddcore/overview/).

JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.

We search for a postdoctoral trainee with PhD in Epidemiology, Clinical Research, Public health or related fields for advanced training focused chronic health issues and quality of life related to the field of Congenital Heart Diseases (CHD). The trainee will get unique experience from the work on a large clinical dataset and linage with relevant national registries. The successful candidate will apply advanced statistical methods to analyze, develop and implement strategies to design studies, manage, and evaluate large, case control studies within large multicenter clinical registries. The postdoctoral trainee will execute study protocols and procedures to ensure accurate and consistent collection of data, provide data analysis and interpretation and is expected to lead or contribute to grant proposals, protocols, reports, manuscripts, and presentation of study findings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
