JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. Postdoctoral Fellow Position in Emory School of Medicine-Department of Pediatrics, Division of Cardiology/Sibley Heart Center

The Pediatric Heart Disease Data Registry Core and research team at Emory University School of Medicine led by Dr. Lazaros Kochilas are seeking a full-time postdoctoral fellow for a 2-year (up to 4 year) appointment starting summer of 2019.The Pediatric Heart Diseases Data Registry Core provides access to rich registry data from surgical, catheter-based and electrophysiologic studies and interventions for multiple pediatric heart diseases ().Our group has received a Department of Defense grant to look at long-term outcomes after surgical repair of Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) and we are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join our study team. Responsibilities will include data collection, generation of reports, statistical analysis and drafting of manuscripts. The study has multiple sub-studies included within it with exciting opportunities for first authorship on manuscripts, presentation of findings at conferences, and national collaborations to advance the career of the individual in this field. Learning opportunities include gaining skills in large dataset cleaning/management, grant/research strategy writing experience and presentation of findings (abstract, manuscript, etc.) preparation.

Candidates must have a PhD in a related field; epidemiology preferred. Candidates should be able to use SAS and/or R, have proficiency in Microsoft office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.), and have great communication and organizational skills. prefer someone with cardiology knowledge, and Experience with project management and cardiology-specific knowledge are desired but not required. Position will provide salary consistent with level of appointment.
