The Nuclear Cardiology Research & Development Laboratory is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in the area of medical imaging processing and quantification. The mission of the Nuclear Cardiology Lab is the development of image-based software tools to support radiologists and physicians in general as they diagnose patients and select the optimal plan of treatment.

The main areas of research focus around the assessment of coronary physiology in normal and pathological conditions by means of hybrid imaging strategies. Projects will include processing and quantification of functional and anatomical imaging dataset, 3D/4D data visualization, image fusion, mathematical modelling of myocardial blood flow and myocardial perfusion.

A variety of invasive and noninvasive medical imaging modalities, such as positron emission tomography (PET/CT), single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), Computed Tomographic Angiography (CTA), Magnetic Resonance (MR) and invasive Coronary Angiography (ICA).

Experience in the field of cardiovascular imaging and/or in the mathematical modeling of the principal mechanisms governing cardiac and coronary physiology, as evidenced in publications or abstracts, will be highly considered.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach techniques, supervise research staff and/or students, write and/or assist in writing manuscripts and grants reports.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.

Preferred Qualifications

The following characteristics will be highly considered:

• Previous experience in one of the following fields: cardiovascular imaging, medical imaging processing and quantification; 3D modeling of anatomical structures from morphological and functional clinical data; PET-derived absolute flow quantification

• Previous experience in python programming (or C++) with scientific libraries VTK, ITK, numpy, scipy
