Emory University, School of Medicine, Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences is offering a full-time Post-Doctoral Fellow position in the laboratory of Dr. Hui Mao. The successful candidate will participated in several NIH-funded projects in the areas of magnetic resonance imaging and quantitative image analysis.
This post-doctoral fellow is expected to carry out research projects within the scope of the funded projects and under the supervision and mentorship of the advisor and program leaders. The candidate will be responsible for performing designed experiments independently, analyzing data, reporting the experimental results and progresses periodically in the research meetings of the laboratory and department as well as supervising technicians, undergraduate and graduate students for their experiments. The candidate is required to produce peer reviewed manuscripts. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop research proposals and apply for extramural fellowship and other training grants. The post-doctoral fellow will be given opportunities to present their research results in national and/or international scientific conferences.
The successful candidate will gain experience and training in a highly interdisciplinary environment, in a number of cutting edge biomedical research areas that include: magnetic resonance technology, preclinical and clinical applications of imaging, diagnostic imaging and image informatics and the various modalities of biomedical imaging. A highly ambitious and motivated individual should have opportunities to develop independent research ideas and careers. JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
