We areseeking a motivated Postdoctoral Fellow candidate to join the Medina Lab to conduct research in virus-host interactions.The trainee will receive advanced training from the Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career.Our groupfocuses on understanding the molecular basis of disease, pathogenesis and immune responses inducedduring Influenza virus and SARS-CoV-2 and other RNA virus infections, using systems biology approaches. The candidate will be expected to design and carry out research projects and experiments independently to achieve research goals, develop new ideas that promote current research, develop new protocols, test and evaluate a variety of approaches, prepare and publish scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. The Postdoctoral Fellow may also be responsible for operation of specific equipment and may teach techniques to others and train research staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Design and carry out research projects independently to achieve research goals

  • Develop new protocols, test and evaluate a variety of approaches

  • Write manuscript for publications in scientific journals

  • Project management, including oversight other personnel in the laboratory

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Astrong background in one or a combination of the following areas: molecular virology, cell culture systems, in animal models, and a solid understanding of virology and immunology. Prior experience in working Biosafety Level 3 (BSL3), omics data analysis or statistical modeling is highly desirable.
