Additional Details

Translational Neuro-Engineering Laboratory

A postdoctoral position is available in the Translational Neuro-Engineering Laboratory, a multi-disciplinary team of investigators led by Dr. Robert Gross at Emory University.

The Translational Neuro-Engineering Laboratory is focused on utilizing core neuro-engineering principles to develop novel technologies for treating neurological diseases. The group is adept at addressing clinically relevant problems due to its close collaborations with clinicians at Emory University and research scientists at Emory and Georgia Institute of Technology.

The group is currently recruiting a post-doctoral scientist whose training and goals overlap with the interests of its members, broadly in the areas of:

  1. Epilepsy models and optogenetics (in vitro and in vivo models).

  2. Electrophysiology (including intracellular and/or extracellular recordings in vitro, and in vivo recording in animals).

  3. Biomedical engineering - specifically the intersection of neuroscience with statistical modeling, machine learning and closed-loop optimization/control.The successful applicant will have completed a PhD in neuroscience, biomedical engineering or related areas, with training in biomedical/electrical/computer engineering and/or systems neurosciences. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in small animal survival surgery including intracerebral injections, implantation of acute and chronic depth electrodes and EEG screws placements. Background in computational neuroscience and/or optogenetics preferred. Tangible evidence of working in a collaborative environment where engineering scientists and neuroscientists overlap with clinicians and technology development will be highly valued.

  4. The successful applicant will be given sufficient research support to ensure success, commensurate with needs detailed in a submitted budget. It is expected that the postdoctoral fellow will develop independent grant applications, in collaboration with other program faculty. The career development of the successful applicant will be a priority of the group.

  5. The specific project(s) the successful applicant will be working on involves a combination of the above features, i.e. closed loop control strategies using optogenetic and/or electrical neuromodulation in mouse and rat models of epilepsy.
