The Business & Society Institute (BSI) within Emory University’s Goizueta Business School seeks to hire a Program Manager for the Start:ME Accelerator program. The Program Manager will manage the day-to-day development, operations, and execution of the Start:ME program, which includes direct management of other program staff and contractors, interns, and community volunteers. The Program Manager will also have ongoing access to the two BSI Professionals in Residence for professional development and mentorship. This position will report to the Start:ME Director.

The Business & Society Institute (BSI) strengthens underserved communities in metro Atlanta by empowering entrepreneurs to start and grow resilient microbusinesses. BSI addresses complex challenges confronting people and the planet through academic discovery and purposeful action. The institute generates research insights that it employs in its teaching and programmatic work on three critical challenges that businesses and their stakeholders can address together: racial justice, climate change, and inclusive economies. To date, Start:ME has served nearly 450 local ventures: 83% led by people of color, 72% female-led, and 23% immigrant-led.


  • Managing all aspects of program delivery, including recruitment and selection of entrepreneurs and accelerator program delivery.

  • Coordinates the strategic planning process and monitors progress toward achieving project goals.

  • Assists in developing, administering and monitoring project related budgets.

  • Coordinates logistical arrangements for related conferences, conventions or meetings.

  • May assist in identifying funding resources and in developing funding strategies and initiatives.

  • Develops and generates various operational and statistical reports.

  • Represents and promotes the project at various speaking engagements.

  • May write grants, reports, briefings, newsletters, promotional or other written material related to the project.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.


Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Producing program content for key sessions, including guiding contracted facilitators.

  • Managing the year-round recruitment of volunteer business mentors.

  • Developing and overseeing the execution of year-round alumni program events and activities.

  • Executing and managing expansion strategy to bring program to fourth metro Atlanta community.

  • Supporting local partnership model, including facilitating coalition building activities.

  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with prospective and current funders, partners, mentors, alumni, and civic leaders in the community.

  • Developing and tracking program related budgets.

  • Overseeing program marketing and communications (web, social media, print materials, etc.), including master communications plan.

  • Assisting in the development of fundraising strategy including preparing grant and sponsorship proposals for prospective partners.

  • Managing and developing direct report staff, interns, and volunteers.

  • Presenting on behalf of the program at conferences, meetings, and other events.

  • Supporting data collection, analysis, and reporting.

  • Delivering special projects including generation of reports, contributing to ongoing research, and improving program processes.


  • A bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of related project management experience, or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training.


  • Strong problem solving, communications, planning, facilitation, process design, and relationship management skills.

  • Deep interest in community development, economic development, and/or entrepreneurship.

  • Ability to periodically work in the evenings from 6PM - 9PM when the program is in session.

  • Access to reliable transportation as program is conducted in-community in local Atlanta area neighborhoods.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
