Under limited supervision, uses a basic knowledge of public health principles to analyze, develop, implement, and promote new and creative strategies and solutions to address public health issues and challenges. Addresses public health issues by providing education, technical assistance, advocacy, public awareness, and research. Works with programs or studies designed to evaluate the prevalence or surveillance of public health issues and the effectiveness of targeted interventions. May provide technical assistance to organizations to include presentations, web-based resources, strategies, and educational forums to address specific public health issues. May work with clinical study sites on patient recruitment and data collection standards. Assists with data collection and data analysis. Contributes to proposals, protocols, data analysis plans, reports, manuscripts, and presentation of study findings. May assist in designing, developing, and conducting targeted training initiatives. May collaborate with external organizations to develop action plans and goals to achieve specific objectives. Performs related responsibilities as required.
A master's degree in public health, a master's of science degree in public health or health education, or a master's in development practice from an accredited school.
I. JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a candidate with experience conducting qualitative research in low-income settings and with a background in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). The position is to assess rural sanitation service delivery in the context of a multi-year, multi-site program led by SNV, an international NGO. Under limited supervision, the applicant will use conduct implementation research using qualitative methods to inform findings from a five year, 11-country study assessing satiation coverage and equity. The position involves developing tools and protocols and collecting and analyzing qualitative dataand contribute to proposals, protocols, data analysis plans, reports, manuscripts, and presentation of study findings. The applicant will ensure that study data and systems are maintained and accurately documented, and may perform analysis using MaxQDA.This position requires collaboration with external organizations to develop action plans and goals to achieve specific objectives. Performsrelated responsibilities as required.
Experience with WASH and rural sanitation is strongly preferred. Experience and classwork in qualitative methods in low-income settings is required. Familiarity with implementation science a plus.
Start date is May 15, 2019. Frequent travel to and extended stays in select countries in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa required.
II. SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the PIs, the PHPA will:
Ensure compliance of study team to protocols and modify protocols as needed
May help data collection tools and establish and manage databases
Liaise with field staff to ensure proper documentation and recording of study data
Conduct key informant interviews and focus group discussions
Develop work plans, detailed implementation plans and monitoring of project activities
Liaise with government agencies, collaborators and community stakeholders intarget countries
Analyze qualitative data (MaxQDA)
Assist in identifying, documenting, disseminating best practices in the project;
Draft peer-reviewed manuscripts
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of sanitation service delivery modalities and systems
Qualitative research and qualitative research related analysis software
International research experience
Ability to travel frequently and/or stay for extended periods in target countries in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.
