This position is an exciting new opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research on early detection and intervention for children at risk of autism and related developmental disorders, as part of a large team of research scientists and clinicians collaborating at Marcus Autism Center within Emory University and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Under the supervision of the principal investigator, Dr. Gordon Ramsay, will be responsible for the daily administration of the Spoken Communication Laboratory at the Marcus Autism Center.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Assists in coordinating routine activities associated with a research project to include data maintenance, grant expenditure adherence, project evaluation, meeting scheduling, research subject interfacing, light clerical duties and control of equipment and supplies.

  • May review literature for related research developments and techniques, compile findings and generate reports.

  • May serve as project liaison to other departments, outside organizations, government agencies and product representatives.

  • May supervise other staff.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

SPECIFIC INFORMATION:

  • Will be the primary contact for families participating in research studies in the lab, and will conduct informed consent procedures with research participants.

  • Will assist in daily running of experimental protocols related to studies of infant speech production and speech perception.

  • Will collect, compile and analyze data arising from those studies for publications, grants, and seminar presentations.

  • Will maintain records, files, and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases, and will handle all filing and paperwork related to research studies, including IRB protocols and regulatory binders.

  • Will administer electronic participant payment card scheme across all research groups at the Marcus Autism Center.

  • Will be responsible for the daily operation of the laboratory, and will be required to take part in laboratory maintenance activities involving ordering of supplies, inventory and media preparation.

  • Will perform related responsibilities as required by the principal investigator.

  • No exposure to hazardous agents is involved in this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a science discipline, business management, or related field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

  • Note: An approved CAS Exception is required for anyone who is charged to a federal grant or contract under this job code.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in a science discipline, engineering or linguistics or a related field.

  • Background in experimental research, speech science, communication disorders, or linguistics preferred.

  • Administrative experience in an office and/or lab environment necessary.

  • Experience working with children with developmental disabilities an advantage.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
