Dr. Michael Burke is seeking a post-doctoral researcher (PhD, MD or equivalent training degree completed or impending) to work in the Burke Lab at Emory University. The Burke Lab is a cardiovascular biology lab that studies molecular mechanisms in congestive heart failure with a focus on chromatin-dependent signaling and epigenetic mechanisms of disease. Our lab is funded by the NIH and Emory University and is growing. Qualified applicants will be given mentorship in lab techniques, scientific study design/hypothesis generating, grant and manuscript writing, and basic cardiovascular pathophysiology.
Candidates will be expected to submit abstracts to national meetings, write papers for peer-reviewed journals, and submit grants to national funding agencies (i.e., F32, AHA fellowship grants) during their tenure. We value candidates who are interested in working as part of a team towards common goals, who have excellent communication skills and who are independent and enthusiastic about science.
Please note- Due to grant funding restrictions, applicants must be US Citizens or Green Card holders at the time of application.
Applicants should have broad experience with molecular and cellular techniques including DNA and RNA processing, PCR, Q-PCR, histology and immunohistochemistry, western blotting, cell culture and mouse handling. Ideally, candidates will also have experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS), basic computer programming/coding skills and bioinformatics training for NGS data processing, though these skills are not required.
