JOB DESCRIPTION: Under minimal supervision, performs a variety of specialized and complex research and laboratory tests and procedures. Uses independent judgment in applying or adapting scientific techniques. May assist in protocol design. Investigates and proposes alternative experimental procedures for consideration by a principal investigator. Assists in planning and scheduling research procedures. Analyzes and interprets results of studies. Demonstrates and trains others in the proper use/operation of laboratory techniques and equipment. Calibrates, troubleshoots and performs routine repair and maintenance of equipment. Reviews literature for related research developments and techniques and compiles findings. Monitors laboratory processes to maintain quality assurance standards. Records results of studies, compiles and analyzes data and prepares charts and graphs. Monitors the handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances. Performs related responsibilities as required. Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in a scientific field and two years of research experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. DATE CREATED/MODIFIED/REVIEWED: 06/08/06 AMM

Summary:

Performs all types of cardiovascular assessment and ultrasound procedures for cardiology clinical research studies.

Responsibilities:

Demonstrates knowledge of indications for various types of vascular function assessment and methods of testing. Follows study protocol and procedures for assessment, preparation, recordings, test performance, test endpoints. Notifies the supervising physician of any abnormal pre-test conditions, abnormalities or concerns. Prepares and completes all necessary forms before and after testing for all procedures.

Performs full range of complex non-invasive studies, including vascular ultrasound and physiologic testing. Performs arterial stiffness testing, endothelial function, carotid duplex scans, upper extremity arterial scans, doppler and imaging. Ability to assure patient privacy before, during and after procedures. Prepares and exports research data of the studies conducted. Maintains and assists in the scheduling of research vascular studies. Participates in cleaning, general maintenance and upkeep of cardiovascular ultrasound and other machines.

Qualifications:

  • Currently Registered Vascular Technologist/Sonographer required or registry eligible.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Prior vascular function testing experience in non-invasive cardiology type lab preferred.
