The Kelly Laboratory in Emory University’s Department of Psychology is seeking a full-time Research Specialist for one year with possible position extension for additional years.

The laboratory investigates the neural mechanisms underlying social behavior in spiny mice (for more information: www.thekellylab.org). The Research Specialist will be responsible for conducting research experiments and assisting with studies conducted by other lab members, as well as maintaining the daily ongoing infrastructure of the laboratory.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the spiny mouse breeding colony, and conducting research experiments under the direction of Dr. Kelly, which will include surgical and behavioral procedures, as well as histological and molecular biology procedures.

  • Secondary responsibilities will include: maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies, assisting with the training of undergraduate and graduate students in laboratory procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent interpersonal and laboratory management skills, strong verbal communication skills

  • Neurosurgical experience, experience working with non-human animals, ability to work in a team as well as independently.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
