Under general supervision, performs a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules. Sets up experiments as prescribed by a principal investigator. Duties include:
Assists in the maintenance of mouse colonies, including breeding, weaning, genotyping of genetically modified mouse models.
Assists in laboratory maintenance and management, including maintaining laboratory equipment, making general lab solutions, maintaining an inventory of supplies. Assists in the daily operations of the laboratory including organizing the laboratory and ordering supplies.
Assists in implementing laboratory safety guidelines (biosafety, husbandry compliance, etc)
Supports research within the lab by conducting experiments utilizing cell, molecular biology, biochemistry and animal physiology skills including: PCR, RNA/DNA/protein isolation, western blotting, fluorescence microscopy, tissue harvesting, tissue sectioning, immunohistochemistry, cell culture
Follows research protocols to perform experiments. Maintain detailed records of all laboratory experimentation.
Assists in analyzing and interpreting data.
May be required to maintain records, files and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases. Compiles data and records results of studies for publications, grants and seminar presentations. Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents. Performs related responsibilities as required by principal investigator.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in a scientific field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
