We seek to hire a team member with undergraduate training in biology and postgraduate training in clinical research, who will play a central role in receiving, processing, analyzing, banking and coordinating distribution of blood, sputum and other patient-derived samples in coordination with the CF Biospecimen Repository at Emory and CHOA.This position will be supervised by Dr. Tirouvanziam ( https://tirouvanziam-lab.com ) and serve the needs of the CF & Airways Disease Research Center directed by Dr. McCarty ( https://www.pedsresearch.org/research/centers/cf-air/overview/ ).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Functions as a skilled individual contributor or lead researcher on one or more research projects, serving as an expert in specialized area(s).

  • Designs, develops and conducts large and/or complex research experiments.

  • Reviews progress of research and evaluates results.

  • Shares expertise in equipment operation and laboratory techniques.

  • Refines/adapts methodologies to fit specific experiment requirements.

  • Collaborates in the development of new techniques.

  • Co-authors publications and may co-present findings with Principal Investigator at meetings/conferences.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

  • Independently performs a wide range of technical and complex research and laboratory tests and procedures.

  • Directs the barcoding, tracking, and banking, and coordinates distribution of samples.

  • Provides input to protocol development.

  • Serves as a technical resource for other personnel.

  • Analyzes and interprets the results of studies.

  • Investigates and recommends alternative approaches to improve the quality of results.

  • Trains other personnel in specialized procedures and theoretical concepts for unique tests.

  • Recommends new equipment and supplies needed for specialized procedures.

  • Provides support for ordering of supplies.

  • Is responsible for good laboratory practice implementation.

  • Provides input into the development of research goals and objectives.

  • May assist in grant and other funding application preparation.

  • Reviews literature for related research developments and techniques.

  • Prepares written materials, charts and graphs on specialized techniques and research results for publication or presentation.

  • Oversees quality assurance of research performed by others.

  • Monitors the handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

  • Participates in the planning, logistics and implementation of laboratory events such as team lunch meetings, annual retreat, welcoming of visiting scientists, occasional workshops, etc.

  • Participates in developing and implementing program-related communications such as study protocol brochures, websites, newsletters, publications, and multimedia or video productions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in a scientific field.

  • Seven years of professional research experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master in biology, public health or related field.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
