The Revenue Cycle Operations Manager supports and coordinates clinic revenue cycle functions for Student Health Services (Emory Campus Life) that include pre-registration, registration, financial clearance, charge capture, billing, coding, follow-up, denial management and customer service alignment with best in-class performance metrics and specific categories of revenue cycle (productivity, compliance, accuracy, effectiveness, and efficiency).

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Major Responsibilities:

  • Establishes, documents, meets, and exceeds operational workflow, productivity, and result standards related to revenue cycle functions.

  • Establishes and administers policies and procedures relating to billing, collections, and insurance reimbursement.

  • Organizes, develops, manages, and monitors key performance indicators (KPI) of the revenue cycle and communicates them with the Student Health Services Executive Team.

  • Provides and analyzes data, prepares operational reports, and makes recommendations to the Student Health Services Executive Team to improve efficiencies in the revenue cycle function.

  • Manages all aspects of remittance processing, third party follow up, and utilization review.

  • Works with the Executive Directors and Campus Life Financial Services to identify opportunities for additional revenue and addresses areas of inefficiencies.

  • Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.

  • Remains up to date with revenue cycle billing codes, billing practices, and healthcare finance law changes and, working with the Campus Life Finance Team, makes implementation recommendations.

  • Serves as liaison between Campus Life Financial Services, Emory Healthcare, and other stakeholders related to all revenue cycle issues.

  • Ensures that physicians maintain proper credentialling with Emory Healthcare and The Emory Clinic.

  • Monitors all insurance network contracts related to Emory Student Health and maintains a fee schedule for third-party payors.

Data and Technology Responsibilities:

  • Provides basic information technology user assistance or direction to Student Health staff working with Emory University and Emory Healthcare.

  • Identifies issues and problems with database management policies and procedures and develops and recommends possible solutions.

  • Develops and generates operational reports from existing databases and other resources to support daily operations, research, and KPI assessment and trends.

Supervisory Role:

  • Supervises staff and manages employee performance of those involved at all levels of the revenue cycle including patient service representatives, patient service coordinators, medical record support, and charge capture.

  • Provides direction, support, and advisement when needed to the revenue cycle staff regarding the practice management system (Point and Click) data and transactional entry.

  • Provides ongoing performance feedback, addresses problems, hires, orients, and trains revenue cycle related employees.

  • Trains staff as appropriate on revenue cycle activities coding billing and reimbursement practices, and performs regular review of the quality and skills.

  • Identifies and supports professional development opportunities. Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree and four years of health information management experience or three years revenue cycle experience with HIM or coding certification, such as FHIA, RHIT, CPC, CCS, or CHDA, and two years of supervisory experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High level commitment to customer service and the end user experience.

  • Demonstrated understanding in how to manage resources across an organization to maximize organization impact.

  • Experience with ambulatory care environments and ability to translate and embed standard operating procedures and process into the clinical environment where appropriate.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
