The Advancement Information Systems team supports the Advancement and Alumni Engagement departments through the maintenance and utilization of divisional systems. The Salesforce Administrator/Developer leads configuration, developing and administration of the Salesforce platform to support and advance Emory University’s mission. The Salesforce platform is used to support critical advancement processes and will serve as the database of record for fundraising efforts as well as alumni and constituent engagement. This position will report to the Applications Developer/Analyst IV.


  • Consults with appropriate staff to develop requirements and specifications for applications.

  • Implements developed applications and provides customer support of applications.


In addition to the duties outlined above, the Senior Applications Developer/Analyst may be required to:

  • Serve as a primary system administrator for multiple Salesforce orgs & environments.

  • Handle all basic administrative functions including user account maintenance, reports and dashboards, validation rules, workflows, Process Builder, flows, and other routine tasks.

  • Is able to work with triggers, Visualforce, Lightning web components, and other basic development tasks and tools.

  • Complete regular internal system audits and prepare for upgrades.

  • Manage Salesforce data feeds and other integrations.

  • Coordinate the evaluation, scope, and completion of new development requests.

  • Assist in training of new users, and grow the Salesforce skill set across the AAE organization.

  • Effectively act as the liaison between our users, vendors, and the application development team.

  • Work independently with members of the user community to define and document development requirements.

  • Perform fit-gap analysis between Salesforce functionality and client requirements.

  • Translate business requirements into Salesforce solutions that best leverage the Salesforce platforms and products.

  • Write documentation and provide technical training for Salesforce staff.


  • Six years of information technology experience OR a bachelor's degree and four years of information technology experience.

  • Positions in this classification may require a knowledge of one or more programming languages and/or a knowledge of an application and application tools.


  • Successful candidates have an understanding of the Salesforce platform and products (Sales, Service, Marketing Cloud).

  • Active Salesforce certification as either Administrator or Platform Developer.

  • Experience working with various technologies including GitHub, Visual Studio, higher education software, particularly fundraising applications, SQL skill using Microsoft SQL Server databases, and Salesforce Marketing Cloud.

  • An aptitude in mastering the implementation of new software, applications, and databases.

  • Ability to translate technology to business needs;

  • ability to communicate complex technical information non-technical stakeholders;

  • ability to create technical solutions that are easily adopted/accepted by end users.

  • Expertise in applying technology to business programs, in particular the ability to quantitatively describe problems and engineer solutions and to gain acceptance and integration into the culture of the organization.

  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills and possess the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strong interpersonal skills, adept at problem-solving with attention to detail, and the ability to navigate a complex work environment, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and comfort working with ambiguity.

  • Possess a high level of professionalism and commitment to confidentiality with sound judgment and discretion.

  • Prior experience in advancement, fundraising, alumni engagement, non-profit, or a university setting.

  • Flexibility to accommodate changing priorities and deadlines.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department of work. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
