Emory University Senior Associate, Emergency Medicine – Emergency Medicine Education Fellowship (Non ACGME) in atlanta, Georgia
The Emory University School of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine is offering a one -year Education Fellowship. This fellowship is ideal for emergency medicine residency graduates with a strong interest in education as well as an academic career. It provides post-graduate training in education methods and residency program administration.
The Emergency Medicine Education Fellowship has multiple components:
Clinical commitment: The Education Fellow is expected to work a reduced clinical monthly target at one of Emory’s campuses of mutual choosing. These sites include the Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, or Grady Memorial Hospital. As an attending physician, the Emergency Medicine Education Fellow will provide outstanding medical care to patients in a hospital emergency department. The Emergency Medicine Education Fellow will evaluate, treat and stabilize patients with emergent medical conditions, illnesses or injuries. Shifts will consist of 8 or 9-hour day, evening, and night shifts. Shifts occur both during weekdays and weekends. The fellow is responsible for and will ensure that all emergency medical care delivered in the department meets the highest standard of quality.
Didactic component: The Education Fellow will be allotted CME funds sufficient to complete the ACEP Teaching Fellowship and the CORD Navigating the Academic Waters development courses.
Administration: The Education Fellow functions in the role of an assistant program director and is actively involved in resident and student teaching and clinical evaluation, curriculum planning, resident selection, and other aspects of residency program administration.
Teaching: The Education Fellow will select an area of focus, either clinical (eg airway management) or instructional (eg simulation) to work towards developing as an area of expertise.
Each Emergency Medicine Education Fellow is expected to develop a set of individual learning objectives that will form the focus of his or her Fellowship activities. In addition, upon completion of the Fellowship, participants will be able to demonstrate the following core educational competencies:
Critique traditional and innovative teaching and testing practices in medical education in light of current theories of learning and problem-solving.
Develop educational programs (from a single session to an entire curriculum) that reflect systematic attention to learner needs, program goals, learning objectives, selection of instructional activities, evaluation, and feedback.
Evaluate one's own preferences and activities as a teacher and implement strategies for improvement.
Design and conduct a program evaluation, basic educational study, or other form of scholarly output appropriate for publication in academic journals or a peer-reviewed repository (such as MedEdPORTAL) or for presentation at professional meetings.
Develop one’s skills as a developer and executor of General Medical Education (GME)
The Education Fellow will be expected to attend the ACEP Teaching Fellowship and will be required to complete an academic project for the course.
The Education Fellow will have a faculty appointment with Emory as a Senior Associate in Emergency Medicine.
Eligible for a Georgia Medical License
Have graduated from or be in the final year of an ACGME accredited Emergency Medicine residency training program
Board certified or eligible at the beginning of the fellowship
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
