This is a central university department job, reporting to the Office for Clinical Research (OCR). Responsibilities may include pre-award budget development and negotiation for non-federal studies or post-award invoicing and monitoring of industry sponsored clinical trials.
Analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions.
Manages highly complex trials to ensure compliance with institutional and sponsor guidelines.
Works collaboratively with investigators, clinical research coordinators, and ancillary departments to identify all the costs associated with a research study.
Negotiates the budget with the sponsor and/or contract research organization to cover all of Emory's costs to conduct the study.
Reviews and interprets the Prospective Reimbursement Analysis (PRA) to ensure all billable items and services needing to be billed to the grant are included on the PRA and in the study budget.
Performs a detailed analysis of industry clinical trial accounts for invoicing, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. Performs audits on complex trials and closed accounts when analysis requires an in-depth evaluation.
Is responsible for processing checks and notifications of ACH wire transfers.
Serves as a technical specialist and preceptor to staff in orientation and in need of training reinforcement in all functions including billing review, contract interpretation, and research billing compliance.
May participate in cross-functional, multi-disciplinary OCR work teams based upon institutional and departmental priorities and perform other pre and post-award responsibilities, as needed.
Effectively prioritizes tasks, and follows-up to ensure completion of studies in a compliant and timely manner.
Effectively applies continuous quality improvement methods in daily operations.
Utilizes and integrates data from multiple financial and clinical databases and software applications including: Compass, EPEX, Emory Express, DOCLink, ERMS, eIRB, GE Centricity, Health Quest, MicroStrategy, and OnCore.
Performs related responsibilities as required.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance or Healthcare related field and five years of experience in research administration or a health-related field which includes three years of clinical research experience.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered for candidates without a bachelor's degree. Master's degree preferred.
Completion of the EHC Quality Academy course within 2 years of hire/promotion.
If post-award responsibilities, completion of Emory Business Intelligence and Research Administration at Emory (RAE) courses/certification within 2 years of hire/promotion.
If trainer/mentor responsibilities, completion of Train the Trainer and Mentor Program at Emory classes at next scheduled class but within 2 years of hire/promotion.
Excellent customer service skills.
NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home temporarily during the COVID-19 pandemic, with intent to return to an Emory University location in the future. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
