Analyzes, designs, recommends, and implements micro-based Local Area Networks. Installs and configures Local Area Network servers and related hardware and software. Analyzes, designs, recommends and implements workstation connectivity. Consults with and assists with system enhancements and modifications. Provides technical support, documentation, project implementation management, and design modifications to meet business objectives. Troubleshoots desktop and connectivity problems.


  • Perform all job responsibilities in a customer-focused manner

  • Travel occasionally to other SON locations during extended work hours

  • Work with team members to complete all tasks and assignments

  • Device support (PC and Mac) for faculty and staff in person and virtual

  • Maintain laptops for student checkout including updating applications

  • Configure hardware and software for computer setup

  • Perform diagnostic testing and troubleshooting

  • Provide mobile device support for Android and iOS devices

  • Maintain/update application image on all classrooms, conference rooms and simulation lab computers

  • Provide software support and training to students and faculty for Adobe Connect, Canvas, Echo 360, Examsoft, Pharos

  • Printing, POll Everywhere, Skype, Typhon, 25Live, and Zoom

  • Maintain SON printer server

  • Maintain SON research server

  • Deploy Windows updates using appropriate tools

  • Manage active directory users and groups

  • Monitor ServiceNow tickets and address/assign as appropriate

  • Complete tickets in ServiceNow in a timely manner

  • Provides back-up to Academic Technology Specialist by performing the following tasks:

  • Consults with faculty to implement system enhancements and modifications.

  • Provides system administration for academic systems and applications to ensure operability of services and provide a highly available, secure and robust academic technology infrastructure.

  • Conducts advanced-level troubleshooting to mitigate impact of equipment failures and improve processes.

  • Reviews and creates user guidelines and standard operating procedures for supported hardware infrastructure and academic applications.

  • Designs and implements preventative maintenance processes and procedures.

  • Supports software upgrades and equipment replacements to ensure system operability and up-to-date standards are met.

  • Researches software and hardware systems to build staff competencies and efficiencies and to ensure service level standards are met.

  • Advises and consults with faculty to recommend best practices in classroom and instructional technologies.

  • Assists in training student staff to provide agreed-upon and monitored service levels.

  • Configures and maintains images and/or systems to ensure computers have up-to-date supported software and are properly secured.

  • Prepares, organizes and deploys hardware upgrades and replacements.

  • Develops and coordinates one-on-one and group training sessions to educate faculty, staff and students.

  • Partners with vendors and University on technology design.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.


  • Five years of information technology experience OR a bachelor's degree and three years of information technology experience.


  • Dell and Apple Computers and Operating Systems

  • Vendor experience with contract negotiations and support

  • Network Management

  • Application Imaging

  • SCCM and Jamf

  • Video Technologies

  • Academic Software knowledge including Canvas, Echo, ExamSoft, Proctoring Software, etc.

  • Working knowledge of AWS Cloud

  • Customer service

  • Troubleshooting

  • Communication
