Works as part of an agile team to design, implement and revise software applications. Within Emory University’s Library and Information Technology Services (LITS) organization, the Lead Solution Engineer leads the full stack delivery team in support and advancement of Emory University’s mission. The client facing applications are used across the university to support critical research administration processes, investigator-led and program-wide research endeavors, and other core functions for Emory University. The ensures that the team writes sleek, performant code in a manner consistent with the team's style and best practices. Collaborates with clients and stakeholders in the development of requirements. Stays abreast of the state of the art through self and group study. Leads the evaluation of emerging technologies and promotes their usage. Acts as a mentor to junior staff. Acts as the technical lead for one or more code bases (primarily React, Redux, Spring). Performs other related duties as required.

Working within the Application Development and API Services group, the full stack lead partners with peer tech leads, developers, business analyst, and architects in delivering the highest quality applications for our clients, establishing patterns, standards and best practices, and maturing the LITS application ecosystem. The incumbent collaborates with Emory’s world class researchers, physicians, students, and staff to help advance discoveries in health sciences and other disciplines, support the dissemination of knowledge, and improve the education of learners throughout the Emory Community.

We are looking for an experienced full stack developer who is proficient with React.js and Java Spring and able to lead and mentor other developers. The primary focus of your team will be on developing user facing components and implementing them following well-known React.js workflows (such as Flux or Redux) and Java Spring. You will ensure that these components and the overall application are robust and easy to maintain. You will coordinate with the rest of the development organization working on different layers of the infrastructure. Therefore, a commitment to collaborative problem solving, sophisticated design, and quality product is important.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Developing new user-facing applications and features using React.js and Java Spring

  • Enhancing existing applications to create an excellent user experience

  • Building reusable components and front-end libraries for future use

  • Optimizing components for maximum performance across a vast array of web-capable devices and browser

  • Work independently with members of the user community to define and document development requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's degree in computer science, math, engineering, or a related field and six years of web application development experience with a framework such as Ruby-on-Rails, Python/Django, Java/Spring, OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Experience with client-side/front-end development. Experience with relational databases.

  • Experience with SOA and integration between systems.

  • Experience collaborating on software via version control.

  • Fundamental linux skills. Understanding of Object Oriented Analysis and Design principles and of N-tier application architecture, and software design patterns.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript and Java, including DOM manipulation and the JavaScript object model

  • Relational database experience (Oracle preferred)

  • Thorough understanding of React.js and its core principles

  • Experience with popular React.js workflows (such as Flux or Redux)

  • Strong Proficiency in Typescript, ES6, ES7 and JS

  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs

  • Familiarity with modern front-end build pipelines and tools

  • Proficiency with Design Patterns for front end development

  • Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements

  • A knack for benchmarking and optimization

  • Familiarity with code versioning tools e.g. git

  • Ability to translate UI/UX design wireframes to actual code in order to produce visual elements of the application

  • Experience working on different projects simultaneously, and capable of cultivating collaboration
