Emory Healthcare Speech Pathologist Specialist, Head & Neck Cancer Center in Atlanta, Georgia
JOB DESCRIPTION: Functions as an independent practitioner in support of the section physician(s) by managing own voice and swallowing patient population. Provides specialty focus which includes additional training and expertise in Laryngology and associated procedures. Works as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the clinical setting. Develops and implements individual voice and swallowing related patient care plans, provides voice and/or dysphagia therapy and continuing care to patients. Under supervision of the attending physician, performs in-office voice and swallowing related procedures. Participates in program development by representing Emory University and the Emory Voice Center at local, state, national, and international conferences and meetings. Participates in or leads the development and presentation of voice and/or swallowing related research projects which contribute toward improved patient care and accomplishment of the academic mission. Trains Speech Language Pathology (SLP) students rotating through the practice as a part of their academic requirements. Participates in training clinical fellows in all aspect of working independently with an Otolaryngology caseload. Performs research in the voice and swallowing evaluation and treatment. Publishes in peer review journals. Performs other duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A master's degree in speech-language pathology. Four years of related experience OR two years of clinical experience with head or neck cancer population (depending on department assignment). Current licensure in Speech-Language Pathology in the state of Georgia. Must hold certificate in clinical competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Dysphagia specialist must hold or pursue board recognition in swallowing. Head and neck specialist must hold or pursue IAL listing. Singing voice specialist must hold a dual degree of a Masters of Music, and Full Member status of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. BLS certification required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
Hiring for the Head and Neck Cancer Center. Preferred qualifications are included. - Monday - Friday daylight. Opportunity exists for out-pt &/or in-pt settings. Schedule also can be considered for five 8-hour workdays or four 10-hour workdays based upon mutual consideration. - Hiring to support clinical activity for the Head and Neck Cancer patient population therefore preference will be provided to SLPs with prior experience with Modified Barium Swallow, FEES, trach, speaking valves, and exposure to laryngectomy rehabilitation. - 76659BR
