Emory University Stationary Engineer (Yerkes) in atlanta, Georgia
Operates, maintains and services boilers and other equipment associated with a power plant in accordance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes and standards.
Operates valves and controls and other steam plant equipment to control the flow of air, gas, oil, water and steam while maintaining temperatures and pressures at designated levels in accordance with the American Boiler Manufacturers Association (ABMA) instructions.
Overhauls boilers, feed pumps, valves and piping systems.
Samples, tests, analyzes, mixes and injects chemicals to maintain boiler waterside conditions and blow downs. Inspects the steam plant to check meters, charts, pressures and temperatures.
Maintains steam plant operating logs to record operating conditions and unusual events.
Ensures a clean boiler room to prevent fire hazards. Operates hand and power tools.
Takes the necessary precautions, in keeping with OSHA standards and other applicable federal and state regulations, when working with hazardous chemicals and materials and power equipment.
Uses personal protective equipment as required.
Drives utility vehicles to and from work sites and safeguards against vandalism and theft.
Performs related responsibilities as required.
ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:
Work Schedule to be discussed during the interview. However, WEEKENDS ARE REQUIRED.
The general schedule is - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. with the option of choosing a four day 10-hour shift, such as 6:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Saturday, Sunday, Thursday, Friday (or Monday and Tuesday).
A high school diploma or equivalent.
Four years of experience in a multi-boiler high pressure steam plant.
The ability to obtain a Second Class Power Engineers License issued by the National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers, Inc. (NIULPE) within 18 months of employment.
A working knowledge of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes for power boilers.
Some positions in this classification may require a valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.
Some positions within this classification may require the ability to lift 60 pounds and to bend, stoop and twist.
Operates, maintains and services steam and hot water boilers.
Performs preventive maintenance and repairs to HVAC systems, emergency generators and other mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
