The Department of Epidemiology, Rollins School of Public Health (RSPH), Emory University () seeks applicants for the newly endowed Stephen D. Clements, Jr. Chair in Cardiovascular Disease Prevention (). Candidates should be internationally renowned for their innovative research in prevention of cardiovascular disease (broadly construed to include heart disease and vascular disease, but also related conditions such as diabetes and chronic kidney disease), in optimizing outcomes of cardiovascular disease, or in important risk factors for cardiovascular disease or its outcomes. The individual holding the Stephen Clements Chair will contribute eminence to RSPH and Emory’s mission of scholarship, teaching and service. The successful candidate will lead a cutting-edge program of research and will bring significant extramural funding and mentoring experience. The position will benefit from collaborative opportunities with existing programs in cardiovascular disease (e.g., EPICORE, ECCRI, METRIC T32), diabetes (e.g., Emory Global Diabetes Research Center, Georgia Center for Diabetes Translation Research), and the strong collaborative environment that brings together the RSPH, the School of Medicine and the other units of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center.
The Department of Epidemiology includes 37 primary faculty members (9 focusing on cardiovascular disease or related conditions), 55 jointly appointed faculty members holding primary appointments in other departments, and over 70 adjunct faculty. Faculty investigators engage in research on a diverse range of topics. The Department is dedicated to research and teaching. In 2017-2018, the Department received more than $40 million in external research funding. The Department offers the M.P.H., M.S.P.H. and Ph.D. degrees and participates in offering a Masters of Science in Clinical Research degree for biomedical investigators.
RSPH is a research focused school supported by over $130 million in external funding. RSPH currently employs over 200 full-time faculty members and each year enrolls approximately 600 new full- and part-time graduate students in its M.P.H., M.S.P.H. and doctoral programs. RSPH ranks 7 th nationally among schools of public health by U.S. News and World Report, and 5 th nationally in total federal funding among all schools of public health. The School is located on the Emory University campus, adjacent to the CDC, Emory’s Schools of Medicine and Nursing, and a number of laboratory and clinical facilities, offering substantial opportunities for research collaborations. Emory is a major research university and member of the AAU; its endowment is among the largest of U.S. universities.
