Discover Your Career at Emory University
Emory University is a leading research university that fosters excellence and attracts world-class talent to innovate today and prepare leaders for the future. We welcome candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community.
The Wingo Lab seek a highly motivated candidate with software development experience to join an interdisciplinary collaborative research group of highly successful investigators that span psychiatry, neurology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, genetics, biochemistry, and neuroscience. The candidate will work on a range of projects closely with the principal investigator and data scientists to build and maintain infrastructure to perform large scale analysis of genetic data to understand the genetic basis of neurologic, psychiatric, and brain-related traits. There are two main branches of the lab – the "wet" lab works with biological specimens to generate genomic data and the "dry" lab work on genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic data that are generated by our lab and others to understand how brain diseases develop. The developer bridges across these groups by developing tools that help both track, exchange, and analyze data – from samples to sequencing. Common tasks include automating, managing, and troubleshooting established work flows in cloud computing or local compute clusters environments and maintenance/extension of locally developed web and electron applications.
The ideal candidate must be able to work independently with minimal guidance. Well documented code, meticulous records, and backing up of data are expected. Good communication skills to gather requirements and get feedback from users (i.e., other lab members) to improve tools.
