JOB DESCRIPTION: The Assistant Director of Coding and Process Education provides leadership for coding education processes throughout the Physician Group Practice on behalf of Patient Financial Services (PFS). The Assistant Director of Coding and Process Education also oversees all training/education for PFS staff to ensure consistent, standard processes. The position is a key member of the leadership team in the Physician Group Practice Patient Financial Services Department. This responsibility includes participation in strategy development, implementation planning, execution, and monitoring of progress towards department and organizational goals. This individual supervises all aspects of coding and process education including workflow, staffing, coding policies, and coding quality and education within the Physician revenue cycle. Develops and maintains strong working relationships with other leaders in the PFS Department, Section leadership, physicians and other providers. Coding Education of Providers - Manages coding educator staffing and workflow to provide education as needed to physicians and other providers. Will use denial information, chart audits and other information to identify provider knowledge gaps. Ensures all new providers are provided a baseline of education prior to their billing under Emory Healthcare Provider numbers. Develops and maintains quality monitoring program to support 95% or better coding accuracy expectations. Coding and Process Education of Coding and Billing Staff - Develops and delivers coding and process training for staff within the Patient Financial Services (PFS) department. Monitors training content, effectiveness and denial statistics to identify any additional training that needs to be developed and delivered. Identifies other training opportunities as needed. Monitors and uses external material that is available to ensure PFS staff stay up to date on reimbursement trends and changes. Utilizes state of the art training tools to develop and deliver curriculum. Team Building Coordination - Develops and provides team building exercises throughout PFS on a regular and on-going basis. Works with PFS Directors to identify team/department needs and develops content to address. Utilizes external resources as available. Hiring, Timekeeping & Performance Evaluations - Responsible for hiring staff, performing time management and payroll activities for staff, monitoring staff performance and completing performance evaluations. Monitors staff education requirements and initiates staff counseling and disciplinary action when necessary. Committees - Serves on committees to represent Coding or provide Coding expertise to PGP leadership, Section Leadership, Physicians/Providers, Billing Compliance; Supports ad hoc efforts throughout the system needing Coding expertise. Interdependencies - Serves as a key member of the PFS Management team. Supports Directors and works closely with them to address education needs: Works closely with Director of Coding to identify education gaps for existing staff and develops plans to address those gaps; works closely with Director of Denials to identify opportunities for education that will reduce denials in the future; works closely with all Directors to develop standardized baseline training for all new hires to establish an Emory PFS way of doing business; works closely with Project Management Office to develop and deliver Tip Sheets/Training for new functionality; works closely with other education groups in Emory Healthcare and Emory University to identify training resources already available that can be tapped by PFS; and works closely with Executive Director of PFS to identify team building activities and other training opportunities that will enhance the skill levels, performance and satisfaction of all PFS staff.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor of Science/Arts in Business, Education or a related field; Masters preferred. Coding certification required AAPC preferred, others accepted. Five (5) years of revenue cycle experience and two (2) years of Mgmt experience. Proven track record in coding and/or education, curriculum development experience preferred.
