Emory Healthcare Coding Educator in Decatur, Georgia
The responsibilities encompass influence of documentation and appropriate capture of services through quality coding. The primary focus of this position will be to provide education services to providers, and coders for the purpose of improving and maintaining high quality coding. The role will include charge capture by auditing/reviewing provider documentation, ICD9-CM and CPT4 coding; TES edit results as it relates to coding, and payer billing/coding requirements as it related to coding and maximizing service reimbursement. This would include the communication and direct feedback to providers and coders on performance and updating Section Leaders on new service and reimbursement opportunities. This position reports to Assistant Director of Revenue Cycle Development.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: College Degree and 3 years of coding specific experience or at least five years of coding specific experience in a variety of coding specialties in conjunction to teaching/ instructing experience will be considered; must have a current CPC, CCS-P, RHIA, or RHIT. CPMA or CEMC are preferred but not necessary. Applicant must be willing to obtain either CPMA or CPC-I within 6 months of hire. Strong working knowledge of CPT4, ICD9-CM, HCPCS, and ICD10-CM; strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, human disease, pharmacology, and medical terminology; working knowledge of CMS coding guidelines, LCDs, NCDs, payer Utilization Guidelines, and Medical Policies, and how to navigate the associated websites; strong knowledge and application of NCCI edits; working knowledge of RVUs and the MPFSDB; strong working knowledge of modifiers and their correct application.
