Emory Healthcare/Emory University Patient Flow Ops Manager in Decatur, Georgia



  • Oversees daily EUH Patient Flow and Patient Flow Center operations.

  • Develops and executes patient flow vision/strategy in conjunction with the Clinical Patient Flow Manager, Hospital Administration and EUH CMO.

  • Initiate, coordinate, and execute patient flow process improvements and operations across the Enterprise through collaboration with the following: Inpatient and outpatient leaders, Procedural location (EHC Transfer & Access Service, ED), Ancillary departments, Nursing leadership, Medical directors, chiefs, Chiefs of Staff, Informatics, and Frontline staff.

  • Represents patient flow center at various organizational meetings including but not limited to Medical Director Forums, Department Head, Quality, Transfer Center Leadership, etc.

  • Partners with leadership to manage Patient Flow Join Commission requirements.

  • Designs and ensures proper training/education for frontline staff regarding process changes.

  • Develops and executes EUH Patient Flow initiatives with a particular focus on capacity/demand matching and proactive capacity management.

  • Gathers, reviews and analyzes data to identify patient flow opportunities and measure success of process improvements.

  • Creates and monitors metrics and goals for patient flow processes.

  • Develops communications and marketing for Patient Flow Initiative.

  • Prepares, evaluates and manages annual labor and non-labor operating and capital budgets for assigned areas; evaluate and manage operating revenue/expense variances monthly and prepare written reports outlining cause and related remediation plans.

  • Conducts financial and quantitative analysis and monitor existing or proposed processes, programs and services against internal and external benchmarks.

  • Develops operational efficiencies and cost reduction projects.

  • Defines the qualifications and performance expectations for all direct report positions including department specific job descriptions, measurable performance standards and organizational behavior expectations.

  • Assures performance development is completed for all front line staff are completed appropriately.

  • Creates an environment that encourages and supports self-development and learning for all staff through regular feedback, by assuring the development of staff through orientation, training programs, work experiences and assessing competencies by meeting the performance expectations stated in his or her job description in a timely manner (normally annually).

  • Promotes professional development of direct reports and their staff by providing access to educational and professional activities in the form of classes, webcasts, journal clubs, meetings and conferences, as appropriate to scope of position and organizational budget.

  • Conducts, at minimum, monthly meetings with direct reports to share essential. information and discuss current problems, action steps and future plans.

  • Ensure all HR and EUH policies and procedures are followed according to standard.


  • Bachelors degree in Health Services or related field.

  • Minimum of three years of healthcare related experience required.

  • Specific experience in hospital operations and patient flow strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 1-10 lbs 0-33% of the work day (occasionally), negligible 34-66% of the workday (frequently), negligible 67-100% of the workday (constantly). Lifting 10 lbs max, carrying of small articles such as dockets, ledgers, files, small tools, occasional standing & walking, frequent sitting, close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure, Bio-hazardous waste. chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting patient care/handling injuries, radiation, shift work, travel may be required, use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
