Emory Healthcare/Emory University Quality Improvement & Report Specialist in Decatur, Georgia



  • Tasked with leading population health initiatives including healthcare quality improvement activities for patients attributed to the Emory Healthcare Network (EHN).

  • This includes developing relationships with patients, primary care physicians (PCP) and health plans with the goal of improving the health of our patients.

  • Outreach to patients and PCP practices takes many forms, including telephonic as well as visits to the patient's PCP office.

  • The position is tasked with getting as many of our assigned patients as possible to fulfill their health care needs, such as receiving Diabetic care, depression screening, breast cancer and colon cancer screening, etc.

  • Encouraging patients to present to their attributed PCP yearly for a comprehensive annual visit can address many of these healthcare needs.

  • The Quality Improvement & Reporting Specialist also must engage in critical thinking to understand the patients' needs and identify those who can benefit from our services.

  • All outreach activities must be meticulously tracked in Excel and other data platforms.

  • The Specialist independently audits and assesses the quality improvement data and activities to determine which methods of outreach result in optimal patient engagement.

  • They then self-implement process changes to improve outcomes.

  • The Specialist position is also ultimately responsible for all reporting of quality metrics to health plans contracted with the EHN.

  • This involves working closely with multiple health plans to identify Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) gaps, such as a mammogram that is past due or a diabetic retinal eye exam that has not occurred or a prescribed medication that has not been filled/refilled in a timely manner.

  • The Specialist performs chart audits within the practice's Electronic Medical Record (EMR), and if the identified service has been provided, they report the required data to the health plan through mechanisms of the plan's choosing.

  • If the identified service has not been provided, they outreach to the patient and/or work with the PCP, to bring the patient to the PCP office for provision of appropriate care.

  • In the case of a medication adherence issue, interaction with the pharmacy and pharmacy benefit manager may also be required.

  • The Specialist also works with other members of the interdisciplinary care team at the EHN to enlist their assistance in various patient engagement strategies, requiring some degree of leadership and teamwork skills.

  • Maintains a clean and healthy environment in compliance with Universal Precaution guidelines and safety standards.

  • All duties and patient interaction performed in accordance with Emory Healthcare patient and family centered care standards.

  • May participate in research projects impacting patient care areas.

  • As part of a patient focused service, promotes a supportive and healing environment to enhance customer and staff satisfaction.

  • Performs other related responsibilities as required.


  • Bachelor's degree highly preferred.

  • Two years of similar experience highly preferred.

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, both telephonic and in person, required.

  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Outlook, required.

  • Familiarity with EMR systems highly preferred.

  • Must be a true team player and self-starter.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
