The Winship Cancer Institute is seeking an experienced and strategic Assistant Director, Research Projects to join our cancer research development team. This role is crucial for advancing Winship’s scientific initiatives and securing funding for cancer-focused research projects. The assistant director will provide leadership and oversight for the development, refinement, and management of grant proposals, with a focus on large-scale, multi-institutional grants, including center or program project grants. This role will oversee pre- and post-award grant management activities for cancer-related grants, including Winship’s P30 Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG).
The assistant director will have advanced experience with the proposal submission and management process, including federal regulatory and funding agency requirements and budget development and management. Experience with generation of data tables and reporting for the NCI CCSG highly preferred. Expertise in grant development, including identification of funding opportunities, scientific writing, and project management will be essential skills for success in this role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overseeing the preparation, submission, and administration of grant proposals and awards including the Winship CCSG grant and ensuring compliance with all pre- and post-award requirements, including progress report submissions, budget management, reporting, and documentation.
The assistant director will develop and implement policies and procedures for efficient grant management, collaborate with researchers, administrative staff, and funding agencies to facilitate grant processes, monitor grant expenditures to ensure alignment with project goals and budgetary constraints, and track and report on grant-related metrics and outcomes to senior leadership.
Additionally, this role provides grantsmanship education and outreach, identifies and develops strategies to improve the process and increase efficiency in response to faculty needs, with the goal of growing Winship’s grant portfolio.
The assistant director will stay informed about funding agency announcements, relevant technology, and best practices in research development to better assist faculty.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Directs the strategic planning, development, and implementation of a program.
Serves as a liaison and key spokesperson to various committees and organizations.
Responds to inquiries and assists in promoting the program.
Assists with policy formulation, strategy development, and the management of daily operations.
May collaborate with representatives from private, government, and international agencies.
Conducts research, designs new initiatives, and writes publishable articles and papers.
May supervise staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in a field related to the program and seven years of professional experience related to the program and previous supervisory and program/project management experience,
OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
PREFERRED QUALFICATIONS:
Master's degree
extensive experience in grant pre- and post-award management, grant writing and project management preferably in an academic setting.
Experience with a CCSG grant .
Strong leadership and team management skills, excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, superior communication and interpersonal skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and grants management software are required.
Cancer research environment and familiarity with federal and non-federal funding agencies and their requirements.
NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
