Emory University Software Engineer II (LITS) in Decatur, Georgia
JOB DESCRIPTION: * This is a central university position * Works as part of an agile team to design, implement and revise software applications. Writes sleek, performant code in a manner consistent with the team's style and best practices. Collaborates with clients and stakeholders in the development of requirements. Stays abreast of the state of the art through self and group study. Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's degree in computer science, math, engineering, or a related field and two years of web application development experience with a framework such as Ruby-on-Rails, Python/Django, Java/Spring, OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience with SOA and integration between systems. Experience with client-side/front-end development. Experience collaborating on software via version control. Fundamental linux skills. Understanding of Object Oriented Analysis and Design principles and of N-tier application architecture, and software design patterns.
Strong and precise communications skills and the ability to create and foster positive and creative relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
Principled approach to delivering high-quality solutions, based on established frameworks and patterns to implement and deploy solutions, and completed on schedule and in scope, even when faced with ambiguity, uncertainties, and competing priorities.
Proficient understanding of the following technologies:
Web markup, including HTML5, CSS3
Cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them
Good understanding with the following technologies:
Server-side CSS pre-processing platforms, such as LESS and SASS
Asynchronous request handling, partial page updates, and AJAX
Experience working in the following context:
An academic, research, or scientific institution and through that work supporting an institution’s mission.
A highly collaborative, multidisciplinary workplace, contributing as a leader and a follower to quality outcomes, through best practices in software implementation such as peer reviews and coding, design sessions, streamlined release processes, thorough testing and validation, and striving towards taking those extra steps to ensure a quality product.
Standard practices in project management, systems development lifecycle (SDLC) with requirements in the form of User Stories and Acceptance Criteria, IT service management, and information security principles for sensitive data protection.
