Emory University Software Engineer II (LITS) in Decatur, Georgia


The Emory LITS Integration Development Team is looking for a motivated team member. The Integration Development Team is responsible for developing and supporting enterprise application integration solutions and services using event driven architecture/service-oriented architecture. We are looking for someone with backend development experience using Java technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Solid understanding of software development life cycle.

  • Solid understanding of object oriented analysis, design, and development.

  • Strong and precise communications skills and the ability to create and foster positive and creative relationships with team members, faculty, staff, and students.Excellent team player, willing to collaborate with other team members and tackle emergent technologies and complex problems.

  • Principled approach to delivering high-quality solutions, based on established frameworks and patterns to implement and deploy solutions, and completed on schedule and in scope, even when faced with ambiguity, uncertainties, and competing priorities.

  • Knowledge and experience with Java technologies including core Java, JDBC, JMS, JPA.

  • Knowledge and experience with SQL and relational database such as Oracle, MySQL, and MS SQL.

  • Knowledge and experience with XML, JSON, REST and SOAP web service.

  • Familiar with common open source frameworks and libraries such as Log4j, Hibernate, Spring, Jersey, Axis2.

  • Familiar with common development tools such as Eclipse, Ant, Maven, SVN, GitHub.

  • Proficient with Linux

  • Exposure to CI/CD and DevOps

  • Exposure to AWS and cloud native development.

  • Experience working in the following context:

  • An academic, research, or scientific institution and through that work supporting an institution’s mission.

  • A highly collaborative, multidisciplinary workplace, contributing as a leader and a follower to quality outcomes, through best practices in software implementation such as peer reviews and coding, design sessions, streamlined release processes, thorough testing and validation, and striving towards taking those extra steps to ensure a quality product.

  • Standard practices in business requirement analysis, project management, IT service management, and information security principles for sensitive data protection.

JOB DESCRIPTION: * This is a central university position * Works as part of an agile team to design, implement and revise software applications. Writes sleek, performant code in a manner consistent with the team's style and best practices. Collaborates with clients and stakeholders in the development of requirements. Stays abreast of the state of the art through self and group study. Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's degree in computer science, math, engineering, or a related field and two years of web application development experience with a framework such as Ruby-on-Rails, Python/Django, Java/Spring, OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience with SOA and integration between systems. Experience with client-side/front-end development. Experience collaborating on software via version control. Fundamental linux skills. Understanding of Object Oriented Analysis and Design principles and of N-tier application architecture, and software design patterns.
