Description
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Oversees and supervises the day-to-day operations of the medical records services for specific departments.
Communicates with physicians, internal departments, and various agencies involved in billing and documentation of inpatient and outpatient services.
Provides guidance and assistance to staff as necessary.
Makes budget recommendations on staffing, equipment and supplies levels.
Supervises staff and manages employee performance.
Provides on-going performance feedback, addresses problems, orients and trains employees, verifies competency and identifies and suggests ways to develop skills.
Analyzes trends and work processes for continuing performance improvement; facilitates multi-disciplinary teams and collaborates with other supervisors to improve service and efficiency of Medical Records; takes remedial action as necessary.
Participates in developing unit goals and objectives.
Meets with staff members to discuss progress and to develop future courses of action.
Supervises, organizes, and monitors the storage, retrieval, and release of medical records and information in compliance with confidentiality/security policies, HIPPA and other regulatoryguidelines.
Investigates and resolves new, difficult or problem coding and billingprocedures.
Recommends work redesign and/or other improvements; serves on various related committees including HIPPA Controls, IMPACT collaborative and Leadership.
Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development.
Attends educational in-services as appropriate.
Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
Compiles and tracks quality indicators of medical records services; prepares and distributes reports.
Communicates with physicians and staff on documentation issues and to determine medical records needs.
Responds to internal requests for claims, billing, CPT and ICD9 coding and patient service information.
Performs other related duties as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate's degree in management or medical services.
Two years experience in a medical records department including one year as a supervisor.
Accreditation by the American Health Information Management Association as an Accredited Health Information Technician.
Technical knowledge and teaching ability of area being supervised.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (MediumMax 25lbs): up to 25 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 25 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock , Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation , Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
